Lions kill woman; still loose in town

KARIBA, Zimbabwe, March 6 (UPI) -- Lions that mauled two people to death are still roaming, causing residents of the Zimbabwe town of Kariba to fear for their lives, authorities said.

A woman, Sharai Mawera, Tuesday was in a bushy area in the Mahombekombe suburb of the resort town with a man identified only as Musinje, when she was attacked, the Harare Herald reported.

The man escaped, leaving the woman behind. He reported the incident to police, who, along with Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority officers, searched for the lions, the Herald reported.

Searchers discovered the arm of a man whom investigators believe the lions must have killed the previous night. Sources said the earlier kill could be the reason the lions did not eat the woman completely.

The Herald said police could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
