KUUJJUAQ, Quebec, March 3 (UPI) -- A shooting in northern Quebec ended with one police officer dead and another seriously injured, officials said.
Officers from Kativik were responding to a domestic dispute at a home in Kuujjuaq at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when the shooting happened, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
When the officers arrived at the scene and got out of their vehicles, a suspect inside the home started shooting at them. Two officers were shot and transported to a local hospital where one of them died.
The officer that died has been identified as 27-year-old Steve Dery, originally from Orleans, Ont.
The other officer, whose identity has not been released, is in stable condition.
"He's going to be OK," said Quebec provincial police Sgt. Ronald McInnis.
As of Sunday afternoon, one of the suspects remained barricaded inside the home. Investigators have not been able to make contact with the suspect since Saturday night.
