KRASNOYARSK, Russia, March 1 (UPI) -- Russian police said Friday a boy was believed to have been killed by wild dogs or wolves in eastern Siberia.

The child's body bore the signs of many bites and his clothes had been torn to pieces, RIA Novosti reported.

The boy's age was not given.

His body was found by his mother late Thursday near Lake Yessey in the Krasnoyarsk Territory of the Evenkia district.

Tracks that appeared to be from wild dogs or wolves were found around his the police spokeswoman Tatyana Shkampletova said.

Residents of the area have been attacked in the past by stray dogs, Yessey village head Gennady Maimaga said.

"They actively breed in the forest and enter the village's territory. There were previous cases when they had attacked people," Maimaga said.

Attacks on livestock in the neighboring republic of Yakutia prompted officers to order a wolf cull in January.
