Dad who drowned sons gets death penalty
ROME, March 1 (UPI) -- Fresh pasta advertised in an Italian supermarket as stuffed with veal or beef turned out to contain horsemeat, authorities said Friday.
The Italian Health Ministry said the horsemeat was discovered in a supermarket in Como, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. About 400 pounds of meat was seized from a Milan supplier, Marchioness Ltd., and stores were told to remove the stuffed pasta from sale.
The "Horsegate" scandal, which began with the discovery of horse DNA in meat products sold in Britain and Ireland, has spread across much of Europe.
