Finnish gunman gets life imprisonment

HYVINKAA, Finland, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A teenager who opened fire from a rooftop in suburban Helsinki, Finland, killing two people and injuring seven, was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.

Eero Hiltunen, 19, was found guilty in Hyvinkaa District Court of murder, attempted murder and causing grave danger in the May shooting, YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Hiltunen admitted randomly shooting at a crowd in the town of Hyvinkaa, but did not offer a motive.

The court cited evidence his actions were premeditated, and ordered him to pay 402,000 euros ($525,574) as compensation to victims, YLE said.
