'Incorrect information' led to ouster

KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Information that prompted Afghanistan's president to order U.S. Special Forces out of Wardak province in two weeks was incorrect, a military analyst said.

Analyst Jawid Kohistani told Afghanistan's Khaama Press in an article Tuesday President Hamid Karzai has not received "reliable information" about residents' allegations of abuse by the elite troops.

Karzai Sunday ordered all U.S. Special Ops forces to leave Wardak, saying Afghans working for the elite force have tortured villagers.

Kohistani said a lack of coordination among Afghan security forces and coalition forces could be one of the main reasons behind Karzai's action.

NATO has said its past inquiries have found no evidence to support charges of misconduct in the insurgency-wracked province.

Allegations of the arrest, torture and extrajudicial killing of civilians will be investigated in the coming days by a commission jointly formed by Afghan and NATO officials.
