Second day of voting under way in Italy

ROME, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- The second day of voting in Italy's national elections began Monday, with voters challenged by snow in the north and rain in the south, officials said.

Just over 55 percent of eligible voters turned out on the first day of voting Sunday.

Candidates from all parties, except for Beppe Grillo, head of the populist and anti-establishment Five Star Movement, voted Sunday, ANSA reported.

Members of the Ukrainian feminist group Femen bared their breasts as former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi went to vote at a polling station in Milan Sunday, ANSA reported.

"Berlusconi buys women as though they were a commodity," Femen leader Inna Shevchenko told La Repubblica. "[Thanks] to his media empire, he transmits a degrading female image."

As they opened their winter coats to reveal their breasts, the protesters chanted "Basta Berlusconi" or "Enough Berlusconi!" ANSA said.

The 55.17 percent of eligible voters who voted on the first day was less than the 62.55 percent who went to the polls on the first day of the 2008 national elections, officials said.
