5-magnitude quake strikes eastern Siberia

YAKUTSK, Russia, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A 5-magnitude earthquake struck the Russian republic of Yakutia in eastern Siberia Friday, with no reports of injury or damage.

The epicenter was 43 kilometers (26 miles) southwest of the settlement of Syagannakh, at a depth of 15 kilometers (9 miles), the regional office of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Services reported.

Specialists examined buildings in the settlement and reported no damage, ITAR-Tass said.
