TULTITLAN, Mexico, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Mexican police said they have arrested nine gang members who allegedly beheaded a woman who tried to break up a fight between rival groups.

Maria del Rosario, 39, was beaten and beheaded when she attempted to stop a fight between two large groups of men. When officers tried to take the suspects into custody they barricaded themselves in a building, set fire to a car and threw stones at officers, El Universal reported Tuesday.

Suspects range in age from 19 to 39, police reports indicate.
