CARPI, Italy, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A Moldovan woman was arrested after a dead newborn baby was found in a washing machine inside her home in northern Italy, officials said.

Police searched the woman's home and found the baby after she was treated at hospital emergency room for bleeding that doctors believed was from giving birth, although the woman denied this, Italy's ANSA news agency reported.
