BEIJING, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A passenger plane had to make an emergency landing at an airport in northeast China soon after takeoff Monday because an engine cover fell off, officials said.

China Southern Airlines flight CZ 3624, traveling from Harbin to Guangzhou, landed safely about 35 minutes after losing the housing on its left engine, Xinhua reported.

The number of people on the plane was not disclosed.

The company didn't identify the aircraft but local news reports said it was an Airbus A320.
