COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Doctors in Sri Lanka said a journalist shot in the neck by unknown assailants will likely survive his injuries.
Faraz Shauketaly of the newspaper Sunday's Leader, was shot in the neck and intensive care at a Colombo hospital Saturday, but a doctor told the BBC he was out of danger.
Shauketaly is an investigative reporter for the newspaper, which has been a frequent critic of the Sri Lankan government, the BBC said. A Sunday Leader editor was shot to death four years ago by masked gunmen in a case that remains unsolved.
The BBC said Shauketaly was talking on the telephone at his Colombo home Friday night when the intruders entered and shot him.
