BOLZANO, Italy, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Oetzi, the frozen Copper Age man who's become a modern day celebrity, is getting his own app so children can learn more about him, Italian officials say.

The app will allow students to learn about how researchers believe he lived and the scientific discoveries that have been made about him, the ANSA news agency reported Friday.

Larixpress collaborated with the Alto Archeological Museum in Bolzano to develop the app.

The 5,300-year-old mummy, also known as the Iceman, has been kept in a refrigerated cell since he was found in an Alpine glacier in 1991.

The mummy, who is 2,000 years older than Tutankhamen, is a major tourist draw for the region.

Oetzi earns about $5.3 million annually for restaurants, hotels and souvenir shops, said museum director Angelika Fleckinger.

The mummy draws about 1,000 visitors a day to the museum, which pulls in about $4.7 million a year, or about half of the museum's costs.

Some 26 documentaries have been produced about the Iceman, making him a global star.
