SRINAGAR, India, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- A curfew has been lifted in the Kashmir valley of India following the execution of Mohammad Afzal Guru, convicted of the attacks on the Indian Parliament.

Guru's defenders said the investigation into his involvement in the 2001 attack was unfair and his legal representation insufficient. Guru's supporters maintain he only played a perfunctory role in the attacks, which killed five security guards when anti-government groups infiltrated the Indian Parliament in Delhi and opened fire.

The government instituted a curfew in Kashmir, Guru's home district, after widespread protests broke out over his execution.

Three protesters died and more than 60 others were injured, including 25 policemen, in the clashes between protesters and security forces, the Press Times of India said Saturday.
