Inmate claims bodies buried in Turkey

KUSADASI'S, Turkey, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- A Turkish prison inmate has alleged more than 50 people were killed and buried in the Aegean town of Kusadasi's, officials said.

Aydin Sevinc, an inmate at the Black Sea province of Trabzon Prison for charges that were not reported, filed a petition with the Trabzon Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, saying Ahmet Tekin Bayka, a convicted leader of a criminal organization, was involved in the slayings of about 50 people and buried their bodies in and around Kusadasi's, the Dogan news agency reported.

Sevinc said he knew where the bodies were buried because of his work at the Gendarmerie Intelligence Anti-Terrorism Unit, where he was involved in unsolved murders that were committed throughout the Aegean region.

On Thursday, Sevinc was brought to Kusadasi's to identify the place where Erkan Er, a man who was allegedly killed in 2004, was buried. Sevinc allegedly buried Er's body in the Kusadasi's National Park.

"I cannot stand this prick of conscience anymore. I am not lying. If you excavate the ground in the National Park, you will find at least 50 corpses," Sevinc stated in his petition.

Excavation of the site was under way Thursday but no remains were immediately found.
