PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Czech police say vacationing Danish students are to blame for two stabbings and thousands of dollars in damage to local hotels.

Some 4,500 teenage Danish upper secondary school students descended last weekend on Prague, a popular tourist destination for young Danes, The Copenhagen Post reported Thursday.

Most of the students left Wednesday but during their short stay, two were stabbed by other Danish students, police said. One was stabbed early Monday outside a nightclub while another was wounded early Wednesday outside the Hotel Panorama where as many as 300 of the students were staying.

Police spokeswoman Eva Kropacova said Danish students caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to several hotels. Toilets, fire extinguishers and furniture were damaged at one hotel, she said, resulting in nearly $5,400 in damage.

Deposits paid by the students would cover the damages, Kropacova said.
