QUEENSTOWN, New Zealand, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- DNA tests on a New Zealand girl have proved she is not missing British youngster Madeleine McCann who disappeared in 2007, New Zealand police said.
Detective Inspector Steve McGregor said Scotland Yard confirmed that the voluntary sample the girl provided was not a match for Madeleine's DNA, Britain's The Mirror reported Wednesday.
The New Zealand girl mistaken for Madeleine was sighted New Year's Eve in Queenstown on New Zealand's South Island.
Madeleine McCann was nearly 4-years-old when she disappeared on May 3, 2007 during a family vacation in Portugal.
