GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- For the first time, flight attendants were remembered at the military hearing for the alleged conspirators of Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

A military spokesman said an American Airlines flight attendant and a 14-year-old boy who was a toddler at the time of the terror attacks were among the victim family members watching this week's proceedings at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, The Miami Herald reported Monday.

"She wanted to wear her uniform to show support for all of the flight crews lost on 9/11, and to remind them that she is thinking of them today," Army Lt. Col. Todd Breasseale said.

Monday was the first time flight attendants specifically were memorialized and the first time a child attended the proceedings, the Herald said.

The military did not identify the participants selected from a pool of people who submit their names to Pentagon's war crimes prosecutor to view the proceedings, officials said. The participants decide whether they want their names made public.
