JERUSALEM, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Israeli security forces and emergency crews in Jerusalem raised the alert level Tuesday evening following a warning of a possible terror attack, police said.
Police, firefighters and the Magen David Adom ambulance service in Jerusalem raised their alert level and a police helicopter was deployed, Israel Radio and the Maariv newspaper reported.
Police sources told the Hebrew-language daily intelligence on a planned terror attack in northern Jerusalem were the reason for the increased alert level.
Also Tuesday, Israel's Security Agency (Shin Bet) revealed the recent arrest of five members of Tanzim, Fatah's military wing, suspected of infiltrating a military base in northern Jerusalem in December and stealing a soldier's M-16 rifle. The five, residents of the Kalandia refugee camp and A-Ram village in northern Jerusalem admitted to investigators that they had patrolled the area near the base prior to the infiltration.
Some of the members admitted to stealing another weapon from a guard at the entrance to Ma'aleh Michmash, a settlement in the Binyamin district a week earlier, Shin Bet said. One of the cell members is the holder of an Israeli identity card, Shin Bet said.
