TUNIS, Tunisia, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Several days of clashes after the killing of a Tunisian opposition leader have resulted in the death of one policeman and injury to 59 others, officials said.
Thousands of people have taken to the streets since Wednesday to protest the shooting death of Chokri Belaid, general secretary of the Democratic Patriotic Party, as he was leaving his house in the capital.
The Tunisian Interior Ministry said police have arrested 375 people. Thousands have attacked at least a dozen police stations, RIA Novosti reported, citing al-Arabiya television.
Meanwhile, Belaid's supporters have erected a memorial bearing his names in the El Menzah 6 neighborhood where he was shot, Tunisia Live reported Sunday. The Tunisian flag and flowers were laid at the site.
Some supporters have suggested the street where he was shot should be renamed in his honor.
