BOGOTA, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Emergency officials said eight people were injured and 143 homes were damaged in Saturday's magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Colombia.

Most of the injuries and damage occurred in Narino, not far from the epicenter, Colombia's disaster management service said Sunday.

Although the quake was centered relatively deep underground, it was felt 500 miles away in the capital Bogota, where Colombia Reports said windows were broken and walls cracked. The shaking also was felt in neighboring Ecuador and Peru.

Colombia Reports also noted the quake struck in the same region as a 7.3 shaker that occurred in September near the city of Popovan.
