KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- A roadside bomb exploded in Afghanistan killing six civilians, including two women, security officials said.

The Taliban have not claimed responsibility for the bomb, which went off in southern Helmand province, Khaama Press said Saturday.

The improvised explosive device is a common weapon of Islamic militants targeting American and Afghan security forces in the region -- and frequently results in collateral civilian casualties.

In a separate incident at least one Afghan border protection officer was killed and three others wounded after a blast in Gulran district of Herat province. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast.
