TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The pastor of an evangelical church in Colombia accused of sexually assaulting 23 women and four underage girls has been arrested in Honduras, officials say.

Alvaro Javier Gamez Torres was arrested in Portal del Bosque, a town south of the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa. He was being held pending extradition proceedings, La Prensa reported Thursday.

Carlos Vallecillo, a spokesman for the prosecutor, said Gamez Torres has been in Honduras for about four months and Interpol had issued an alert for him.

Gamez Torres, pastor of the Apostolic and Prophetic Church of Salem in Colombia, allegedly convinced young women and teenage girls they would be ensured a place in heaven if they had sex with him.
