U.S. lifts ban on Kam Air

KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. military Monday lifted a recent order blacklisting Kam Air, a major Afghan airline, because of suspected drug smuggling, officials said.

The reversal comes amid a disagreement between members of the military and staff at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, The New York Times reported. The military has agreed to provide details of its accusations against the airline to the Afghan government, which has agreed to investigate the allegations and take action if necessary, the newspaper said.

The ban had caused some difficulty for Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who often charters Kam Air jets for overseas travel but was forced to make other arrangements for his most recent visit to Europe, the Times said.
