MOGADISHU, Somalia, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A woman who accused Somali security force members of raping her was sentenced to a year in jail for making a false accusation and insulting a government body.

The case and decision were been met with angry reaction, with human rights groups and journalists charging that the case was motivated by politics, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Judge Ahmed Aden Farah, sitting in Mogadishu, said the court based its decision on medical evidence indicating the woman was not raped. The woman alleged she was rape at a police station in Hodan, a district in Mogadishu where refugees live.

Farah also found guilty a journalist who interviewed the woman but did not report the story, the BBC said.

The woman's husband and two others arrested in the case were released.

Farah said the woman would not go to jail immediately because she is taking care of a young child.
