SEVILLE, Spain, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- The leader of a Spanish trash-collectors union said the city of Seville has made no attempt to settle a weeklong garbage strike.

It was estimated that more than 4,500 tons of trash remained uncollected on the city streets this weekend, but the head of the striking union told reporters the Seville city council and their trash contractor had yet to make any moves to end the walkout, thinkSPAIN said Sunday.

Antonio Bazo also denied his members were responsible for fires set in at least 25 trash receptacles since the strike began over a proposed pay cut and change of working hours.
