ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Hundreds of people were injured in protests marking the anniversary of the uprising that toppled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, officials said.

In Suez, nine people were reported to have died in Friday's violence, Ahram Online reported.

In Alexandria, protesters clashed with security forces and local residents, al-Masry al-Youm reported. Demonstrators protesting President Mohamed Morsi and the "Brotherhoodization of the state" threw rocks and firebombs at police, who responded with tear gas.

Residents and shop owners in the Manshiya district of Alexandria threw rocks at each other. A number of people were injured before security forces separated the groups.

Security forces fired into the air outside the criminal courts to drive away protesters who were allegedly trying to storm the building.

Injuries ranging from respiratory problems caused by tear gas to cuts were reported by the Health Ministry, but no deaths were reported.

At least two dozen people were arrested in Cairo following violent clashes around Tahrir Square.

Prosecutors said 10 protestors were accused of assaulting police forces, three of storming a restaurant near the square and destroying its façade and eight for setting fire to a nearby school.
