CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Two men were killed Friday in an avalanche in northern Italy, emergency responders said.

The incident took place in Cortina D'Ampezzo, a small village in the Dolomites mountain range, near the Austrian border. The men, cousins from the town of Anterselva di Mezzo, were skiing an unmarked slope when a large sheet of snow and ice detached and crashed down the mountain, ANSA News Agency said.

Their bodies were found Friday, officials said.
