ROME, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Coast guard divers on Tuesday inspected an oil platform off Italy's Adriatic coast to find the source of a leak that spilled 265 gallons of oil, officials said.

The spill, near the border of Abruzzo and Molise, was in the Rospo Mare oil field about 12 miles from the port of Termoli, the ANSA news agency reported.

An oil tanker reported the spill Monday night.

The Italian energy companies Edison and Eni operating the field have suspended operation.
