Sailor held in break-in & doorbells case

YOKOSUKA, Japan, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Police in Japan said they arrested a drunken American sailor who allegedly broke into an elderly woman's home after ringing doorbells in a neighborhood.

Manuel Silva, 20, who serves on the U.S. aircraft carrier George Washington, was being held at a Yokosuka police station and was scheduled to be moved to a local prosecutor's office Tuesday, police said.

Silva was off base after curfew Monday when the incident occurred, CNN reported.

Residents of Yokosuka, south of Tokyo, called police complaining someone was ringing their doorbells in the middle of the night for no reason.

Police found Silva on the elderly woman's property, CNN reported.
