LONDON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Thousands of travelers faced a fourth day of flight cancellations and some schools were closed because of wintry weather in London, officials said Monday.

A spokeswoman for Heathrow Airport said 10 percent of flights were canceled to create some resilience in the day's schedule.

"The airfield at Heathrow is fully operational with all runways, taxiways and stands clear. The schedule for today has been reduced by 10 percent in order to cope with the low visibility conditions expected from 4 p.m. [local time] this afternoon. Further cancellations are inevitable given the adverse weather conditions at other airports around Europe."

Flights at East Midlands Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport and Robin Hood Airport were also delayed or canceled, The Independent reported.

Eurostar train and London Overground's Tube services had also been halted or delayed by the snow and icy conditions, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Hundreds of schools across London were not opening Monday.

The Met Office for southern England issued an ice warning and called for more snow flurries.
