4 dead, 4 missing after coal mine accident

MOSCOW, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Emergency services reported at least four men died after inhaling smoke during an accident at a coal mine in southwestern Siberia.

The accident took place in the Kemerovo Region, part of Russia's coal producing region, RIA Novosti reported.

Seventy-seven miners were working underground when smoke began spreading through tunnels Saturday.

RIA Novosti said 69 people were safely evacuated and four were still missing.
