JERUSALEM, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Former Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman Saturday reaffirmed Israel's plans to build settlements in eastern Jerusalem.

Lieberman's comments came after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu vowed Israel will not stop building in Jerusalem, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The former foreign minister also addressed reported criticism by U.S. President Barack Obama, who was quoted by Jeffrey Goldberg, a columnist for the Atlantic magazine, this week as having said on numerous occasions Israel "doesn't know what its own best interests are" in reference to the building of new settlements.

"Not you nor I heard Obama [make these comments], we read Jeff Goldberg. This is a journalist with a clear agenda," Lieberman said from Beersheba.
