KABUL, Afghanistan, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- At least one person died in a commercial market fire in one of the main shopping areas in northern Afghanistan Thursday, officials said.

Officials said two people were trapped in the fire and one died after falling from the building, in Mazar-i-Sharif, Khaama Press reported.

Witnesses said the fire crews were working to prevent the fire from spreading from the five-floor Haji Jawzjani market, one of the main areas to shop for clothes in the city, the capital of Balkh province.
