SANGJU, South Korea, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A hydrochloric acid leak at a polysilicon plant in northwest South Korea Saturday prompted the evacuation of hundreds of nearby residents, police said.

The acid leaked from a 200-ton tank of the Woongjin Polysilicon plant located in Sangju, Yonhap News Agency reported.

No injuries were reported, police said, adding that the accident area inside the plant was cordoned off.

About 760 residents were evacuated to a school, police said.
