The injured officers were hospitalized in Cucuta, capital of Colombia's Norte de Santander department, officials said.

A National Police lieutenant was assassinated near Ocana earlier this week, Colombia Reports said.

Officials said the Catatumbo region is one of Colombia's most violent regions because of guerrilla and drug trafficking activity.
