TORONTO, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Toronto police said they plan to exhume the body of a teenage boy whose father and stepmother are charged with murder in the death of the boy's older sister.

Dwayne Biddersingh fell 22 floors to his death from his family's Toronto apartment in 1992 in what was believed to be an apparent suicide, the Toronto Star reported Wednesday.

Detective Sgt. Steve Ryan said the reason for the exhumation is linked to the sensational slaying of the boy's 17-year-old sister Melonie in 1994. The girl's broken and twisted remains were discovered inside a suitcase that had been doused with gasoline and set on fire.

Melonie Biddersingh had never been reported missing, and authorities were unable to identify her as the victim until November 2011, after police received a tip.

Everton Biddersingh and stepmother Elaine Biddersingh were arrested in March and charged with first-degree murder.

Dwayne and Melonie's mother, Opal Austin, told the Star in April she is still disturbed by the manner of her son's death.

"We just want to make sure nothing was missed, that there's no evidence to suggest that there was foul play," Ryan said.
