1 soldier, 9 PKK rebels killed in Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Nine suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party were killed in eastern Turkey, government forces said.

Security forces came to the rescue after several PKK members attempted to infiltrate a police station in Hakkari province, the Hurriyet Daily News reported Tuesday.

One Turkish soldier was killed and two others were wounded in the fighting. Clashes are reportedly continuing in the area.
