VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A U.S. skier was found dead Monday, apparently after going off a cliff on Whistler Mountain in British Columbia, police said.

The 43-year-old Oklahoma man, whose name had not been released, was found below a ledge in the resort's Franz's Meadows area, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the fallen skier was spotted by another skier who called for assistance when the man, who appeared in need of help, didn't respond.

The Mounties said attempts to treat the victim at the scene failed to revive him.
