EDINBURGH, Scotland, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A prominent figure in Scottish banking died in a skydiving incident when his primary and backup parachutes failed, investigators say.

David Ball, a senior figure in the IT department of Cooperative Bank, died Saturday in central Scotland in a solo jump from about 3,500 feet, The Herald reported Monday.

Ball, 56, was a regular parachutist and had completed 50 to 60 jumps, a source told the newspaper.

He had jumped from the Strathallan Airfield in Perthshire.

Police are investigating the incident with the cooperation of the British Parachute Association. They are looking into whether the relatively low jump played a part in the accident, the newspaper said.

Ball had been the director of IT Integration with the Cooperative Banking Group since 2011. He leaves a wife and three children.
