Noted Canadian chef missing

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Well-known Canadian chef Jonathan Gushue has been missing since failing to show up for work on New Year's Eve, police said Monday

The 41-year-old, award-winning chef was last seen the morning of Dec. 31 in Toronto where he had gone to visit friends. He never showed up later that day at Langdon Hall, the luxury Cambridge hotel and restaurant where he is employed and was scheduled to work the New Year's Eve shift, the National Post reported.

Gushue, a married father of three who also sometimes used the name Jonathan Herder, has worked in several of Canada's finest restaurant kitchens.

The newspaper said Gushue had gone to Toronto Dec. 29 to meet a friend for dinner and called home to say he would return home that evening. Police said instead he checked in to the Park Hyatt hotel in Toronto and checked out on the 31st, the Post said.

CTV reported his cellphone was found at the hotel and police said his car has also been accounted for.

Gushue has a history of disappearing for periods, but never this long, police said.

"To tell you the truth, we're just terribly sad and upset and terribly upset for Jonathan's family," Mary Beaton, whose family owns Langdon Hall, told The (Toronto) Globe and Mail.

"I just wish we could find him and he'd be healthy and well. ... I just hope he turns up very soon."
