JAKARTA, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The death toll from floods in South Sulawesi province, Indonesia, rose to eight, an official said Monday.

"Three people died in Gowa, two in Pangkep, two in Jeneponto and one in Barru," the Disaster Mitigation Agency official said.

Heavy rains the past few days caused flooding across Indonesia, The Jakarta Post reported.

Agency officials said more than 15,000 families in the province were affected by the flooding.
