Eight miners die in blast in Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Eight miners died Monday in an explosion caused by coal gas accumulating in a mine in Turkey's northwestern province of Zonguldak, officials said.

Officials said they believed other miners were trapped beneath the rubble, Dogan News Agency.

The methane gas exploded after the miners opened a coal seam, officials said.
