KIROVSKOYE, Ukraine, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Rescuers found the bodies of two miners, bringing the death toll to three after a methane gas explosion at a coal mine in Ukraine, officials said Sunday.

The gas explosion at the Komsomolets Donbassa coal mine in Kirovskoye Thursday caused the shaft to collapse, trapping four miners underground, RIA Novosti. One miner escaped on his own and was hospitalized with gas poisoning. One body was removed Thursday.

Officials said the cause of the accident was under investigation.
