Russia's Northern Fleet in naval exercises

Jan. 4, 2013 at 3:07 PM

MOSCOW, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- The Russian navy's Northern Fleet will participate in at least two multinational exercises in 2013, a spokesman confirmed.

Drills in the Barents and Norwegian seas and in the Atlantic Ocean, spokesman Capt. Vadim Serga said Friday, will involve the Russian and Norwegian navies and the improvement of search-and-rescue capabilities.

Exercises in May, called "FRUKUS drills," will join the navies of Russia, France, Norway and the United States in annual exercises under the Partnership for Peace Program, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.
