MOSCOW, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- The mausoleum holding the remains of Russian Communist leader Vladimir Lenin will stay hidden under a white domed tent while a leaning problem is remedied.
The mausoleum in Moscow's Red Square was closed to the public in September because of a leaking roof and now the repairs to solve the foundation problem are expected to take about four months more to complete, Euronews reported Dec. 27.
The St. Petersburg Times reported the building has been under "serious strain" because of sinking ground and weather damage to its exterior.
Stanislav Kyuver of the Federal Guard Service said Lenin's corpse wouldn't be removed during the work. He said the tent was erected for aesthetic reasons and so workers would stay warm, the newspaper said Interfax reported.
Lenin's embalmed body has been on display to tourists since his death in 1924. Whether it should remain for public viewing is a matter of debate. Euronews said an online poll last year found 69 percent favor burying the late leader, though Russia's Communist Party has rejected that idea so far.
