LONDON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- A British comedian who called the television sex scandals a "witch hunt" was arrested Wednesday as he returned to London, his lawyer said.

Police detained Jim Davidson, 59, after he landed at Heathrow Airport, The Sun reported. Solicitor Henri Brandman said his client was questioned at a police station.

"Two women have made allegations in respect of Jim that date back approximately 25 years," Brandman said. "The complainants were then in their mid-20s. Jim vigorously denies the allegations.

"He answered police questions as fully as he was able after this passage of time. He has not been charged with any offence."

Police detained a second man, described only as a 53-year-old living in Hampshire. He and Davidson are the ninth and 10th people arrested in Operation Yewtree, an investigation that began with allegations that the late Jimmy Savile, a prominent disc jockey and television presenter who had been knighted for his work, had molested girls.

Davidson was the former host of a game show, "Generation Game." He was also expected to appear Wednesday night on "Celebrity Big Brother."

Other celebrities caught up in the investigation include pop star Gary Glitter. All those arrested so far have denied the allegations.

"The Jimmy Savile witch-hunt is going a bit silly now. Just pick someone you don't like and say it's them," Davidson wrote on his blog recently.

He added: "Who's next to be the victim of a media feeding frenzy? I have the answer.

"But, like Jimmy Savile, it's only rumors. But when these rumors come out -- WOW!"
