Vietnamese fishing boat vanishes

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A Vietnamese fishing boat with eight people aboard has vanished, rescue workers said.

The boat was last heard from about 30 nautical miles from the estuary of the Gianh River in the South China Sea at 5 a.m. Dec. 30. It has not been heard from since, Vietnam News Agency said Wednesday.

Some 17 vessels have been enlisted in an ongoing search for the missing fishermen.
