CAIRO, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- An Egyptian comedian is being investigated for poking fun at President Mohamed Morsi on a television show.

Bassem Youssef, a popular comedian who's taken sharp aim at Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood that Morsi once ran, is the subject of a complaint by an Islamist lawyer, Ramadan al-Aqsuri, The New York Times said Wednesday. The complaint alleged a skit during which Youssef had Morsi's picture sewn into a pillow was "a sharp attack on the person of the president."

Since Morsi took power in June police have opened numerous investigations into several media figures, offering more cause for concern among Morsi's critics, who say he has not protected freedom of expression.
