NEW DELHI, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- The second of three combat ships Russia contracted to build for India for $1.6 billion has arrived in Mumbai, an Indian military official said Sunday.

The guided-missile frigate, The Tarkash, commissioned on Nov. 9, left Baltiysk for India on Nov. 19 and arrived in India Sunday, Moscow's RIA Novosti reported in New Delhi.

In 2006, Russia and India signed a contract for the construction of three modified Krivak III class (also known as Talwar class) frigates for India.

The three stealth frigates all will have been built in the Russian Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad, RIA Novosti said.

Each of the new frigates are to be equipped with eight supersonic cruise missiles, a surface-to-air missile system, two air-defense gun/missile systems, two torpedo launchers and an anti-submarine warfare helicopter, RIA Novosti said.

INS Teg, the first frigate, joined India's navy on April 27. The third, The Trikand, is scheduled to arrive next summer, the report said.

Russia had earlier built three Talwar-class frigates for India: INS Talwar (Sword), INS Trishul (Trident) and INS Tabar (Axe), the news service said.
